We were little girls growing up near Kessel’s Speedway in the 50’s. The morning after the race we would sneak in and scrounge for whatever we could find under the bleachers. We didn’t find much. Our big brothers got there first and found money and bags of half eaten popcorn. We were hungry kids.
Please let me know if you have had to overcome obstacles when seeking promotions and/or tenure? I would like to begin a dialogue with other faculty women.
Hello, I wonder if there are other women and ethnic minorities who are having trouble being promoted to full professor. I have earned this promotion. I have many publications, great teaching evaluations, and am credited with outstanding/exceptional service to the department. Apparently, my efforts are not good enough. My application for promotion from associate to full has been rejected at 3 levels. I have not been told which of my publications are acceptable and which are not. I have published in Spanish-language publications (translations) and women in higher education publications. It is a lonely experience trying to stand up for myself. Having said that, I must say that other women and minorities at my university are supportive. Please respond if you commiserate with me. I need a friend at this pivotal time in my career. Anyone out there?
